Which test do I need?

For a new monitor, laptop or TV, run all four screen tests in this order. Each one checks a different fault, and none needs a download or a permission.

Testing a new monitor before the return window closes

Test a new screen on the day it arrives. A store return inside the return period is usually quicker than a warranty claim, and many faults count only under the maker's own rules, such as its pixel policy. Write down the date you bought it and the last day you can return it.

Let the screen warm up for a few minutes, wipe it with a dry cloth, and set it to its normal mode with eye care and night light off. Run the checklist above, copy each result from the tool, and take photos at normal exposure, without night mode. If you find a fault, contact the store with the results and photos before the return window closes. Keep the box until you are sure.

How the screen tests work

  • Full screen, plain colors

Each test fills your screen with exact colors or patterns, so faults stand out. Press Esc or tap Close to leave.

  • No permission needed

The screen tests only draw on your screen. They never ask for the camera or the microphone.

  • Nothing is uploaded

The screen size the tests show you is read on your device and never sent anywhere.
